Good Morning Guys,

I have a question for the experienced here. I am looking at buying an amplifier and I noticed, probably as you have there is a marked difference in price between the Peavey Bandit and the Peavey Nashville, about £350 difference.

My questions are :-
1) Is there really that much difference in the sound ? Given it's probably the same amplifier in a different shell with less EQ controls on the Nashville, as far as I can see its the same speaker.

2) Given the large amounts that can be spent on Pedal Steel Guitars, are Peavey just loading the price of the Nashville because they think we can afford to pay more ?

I've never done an A/B test on the two amps but I wonder if anybody else has, and if the majority of you would say the extra £350 is worth the investment.

Keen to know what you guys think

Peavey Bandit is like the choke barrel on a 12 bore, and one of those took out the hearing on my right ear. My advice would be keep away from that one..... The Nash is much more popular for steel, but I would prefer my cubes over any of them including Telonics.......
If you want some raw power, I have a Fender Showman here for 150 quid, has a nice 15 inch and will demolish a house.

Thank you for your response John, as usual all taken on board. That last "microphonic" steel I had on loan sounded sweet through the Roland Jazz Chorus amp I had, and I have found other Roland gear to be very clean, and sweet on the top end. so I'll go with your suggestion and buy a couple of cubes.

Ok John I see they do a few different "cubes" which is the one most suited to Steel ?

you can buy either the Roland 80X or the Roland 80 XL- (Both discontinued now so cheap as chips ) The XL has a few more Gizmos on it to impress the guitar players but you don't have to use them and the basic amps are the same but, if you want to turn your cubes into little sound monsters..... what I have done (follow at your own risk) is remake the cabs 60 mm taller, its not that difficult B and Q will cut the 10 bits to size for you then you will be able to fit JBL E120's and the difference is jaw dropping! that's not to say you cannot manage with a couple of cubes but the effort is so worth it IMHO.

I have posted these pics before but cannot find the relative thread but the advantages of having a set up with two of these. If one goes down or anyone's amp in the band goes down you have a spare and yes one would do the job for you (Just about) and you can get through the night, having ex. speakers more to carry take up more storage space and IMHO do not cut it like a supercharged cube. even with an E120 in I can still carry one in each hand though I do tend to use a trolley these days. I like to set the up one on top of the other, just use the effects on the top one , the bottom one is just there for extra muscle.
