So i've just been informed that George l's have stopped making the 11.5 guage string which i use for my 3rd string. So i have 2 questions
1. Has anyone got any 11.5 george l's string they want to sell me?
2. Is a 12 guage too heavy?

Matt, Jagwire do 11.5 strings ( we're part of John Hughey Signature set). quite a few US players use a 12 on the third.

Hi Matt - no to the first question, but what guitar (or at least what scale length) is needed to advise on the second. I generally use an 11 on 24in scale all-pull changer.

I've always used a 12. I wind most of the string on the shank next to the key head edge. That way there's less risk of the edges of the eye-hole cutting into the string. It's a tip Jeff Newman gave me. I've never had a breakage problem but I am careful when I put on a new string. I tune it up to F# and leave it for a few minutes before slowing bringing it up to G#. If you wind it straight to G# and hit the B pedal then it's almost guaranteed to snap.
