I have just bought a great 100 watt Hughes & Kettner (Tour Reverb) amp, I paid £20 for it but I think it could do with a different speaker. The original speaker that is in it now is a Celestion G12. Can anyone suggest a good replacement suitable for steel without breaking the bank. I do have an Eminence Kappa 500 watt 12" speaker but that is 8 Ohms and I need a 4 Ohm speaker. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers Dave.

I bought a couple of 4 ohm Telonics 12" speakers from Mark Dunn. Certainly not cheap, but very good sounding for steel guitar - most importantly they are extremely light.

Thanks for the suggestion Ken and as much as I would love one I'm afraid George Osbourne won't give me any more pocket money, Well it's hardly a pension. Cheers Dave.

I used an Eminence lil Texas 8ohm in a peavey special. I know it's not 4 ohms but very sensitive so the amp was still very loud if necessary. Very light weight 125w neo magnet. Just over £100.

Dave, try Hotrox Nottingham for a Sica 12inch Neo speaker rated 250watts in 4ohms , been using one for over three years now, they are in £100 region.

Good to know, thanks, Malcolm! You obviously think the speaker is good. The value for money seems impressive if so. Wonder how it stacks up against the Telonics neo?

Will, have had the 12inch Sica for around 3 1/2 years now, operate it with the MB200, played all sort of gigs with it, indoor outdoor big small mic'd up not mic'd. Very pleased with it, saw it being used by Ken Fox on the US forum, he put it in all the Fox Vintage amps he built.
Edit.-- Will, have not tried the Sica against either Telonics or Eminence, but I am very happy with sound , and a lot better off cash wise. The 15 I just ordered is for a bass guitar project, but will try it with the MB200 and see how it sounds, I know a lot of players in States use them in Tommy Huff cabs for steel.
