Dave - sorry to go off topic for a sec, but there is some interesting news on the Hot Potz front. Kevin Ryan and Jim Palenscar have bought the Goodrich company, and relocated it to sunny California. The company has re-designed the Dunlop HotPotz, and their version has a longer and slotted shaft. They had an Allen Bradley taper manufactured into the new pot, which in my view was the only thing lacking in the old Dunlop Hot Potz.

Below are Jim and Kevin pictured with Tom Bradshaw (centre). 3 good guys. Kevin is a very good steel player.

Here is the new pot with one pot pre-wired.

Finally, a shot of some pre-wired pots. Takes the fiddling out of soldering the tags.

Fed up with replacing pots, one I have now is scratchy after no more than three months light use, What has happened to them? I can recall playing every night of the week and hardly ever changing a pot, the bloody string would break before the pot got scratchy. I have got through half a dozen in the last few years, thats across three different pedals.
Dont mention pot-less, cant afford one, (pot to piss in etc)

It was the demise of the Allen Bradley type J pot that brought about the birth of the Hilton, Telonics and Goodrich potless pedals. I have an original 1950's Fender Vol/Tone pedal that has its original Allen Bradley pots in it, and they are still working great. PEC pots don't last 5 minutes. If the AB pots were still in production, there would be too small a market for Hilton and Telonics to be as successful as they are today. I have a Hot Potz in one of my 'Bud pedals, and its still working fine after a few years.

I have quite a number of pot pedals, including 3 Sho~Bud pedals, and the new Goodrich pots are very attractive as an alternative to me. However they are ruddy expensive unfortunately. I might wait until I go to Dallas again, and pick some up there. I don't use my Hilton these days as I dislike having to lug around a pedal with a fixed lead that has a transformer attached that in turn has to be put through a step up (110v - 240v) voltage converter. My silver Telonics is powered by a single fine lead that runs from a power output socket on the front of my Telonics combo amp. However, to import one to the UK will mean shelling out around £400. A lot of dough for a volume pedal. My personal taste is that I prefer pot pedals for their tone.

Thanks for the hint about the new Goodrich/Dunlop pots. Ken.
Have had one of the Dunlops in my pedal for about a year and it seems ok. The taper's a bit different but just a minor matter. You can get used to anything,
more of less.

The thing that puts me off of the electronic pedals apart from the price, is it's something else to plug in and carry all the bits around. Also if it goes wrong you have to send it back to the U.S.

No doubt they are technically superior, but if you can get decent pots. you can keep your kit to a minimum.

Tony, after going through about six pots for my Goodrich = about £150 in two years, I got a Hilton, have used it for about four years now, no problems whatsoever with it, although I did buy extra wall wart just in case, it is still in packet never have being needed.Had I continued to use Goodrich god knows how many more pots it would have used.The new Dunlop type pots from Jim Palenscar may solve the problem, but I am glad I went with Hilton.The Hilton Ken has is older one with fixed lead, newer ones have plug in ones.

Appreciate what you say Malcolm and I've no doubt the electronic pedals are superior.
I hope I didn't infer anything derogatory about them.
