Anyone know the make of this speaker

Postby Jif » Tue Aug 04, 2015 9:30 am

I've had a Fender Super Twin Blackface 180w for a number of years, I don't use it any more for live work, great sound but it must rank as being one of the heaviest combos ever made. The mains transformer alone weighs as much as a Roland Cube! I believe these Combos were made 1979-1982?

Anyway, I was thinking about using the speakers to build a couple of 1 x 12" cabs and have removed them. The brand stickers must have fallen off over the years and I am having difficulty identifying the make of these. So here are a couple of pictures, anyone have any idea?

Just guessing, but I would say either Celestion or Fane.
Show Pro D10 (amber) 8 + 6, MSA Signature XL D10 (redburst) 9 + 6, Sho~Bud D10 (sunburst) Pro 111 8 + 6, Emmons D10 Push Pull - (black) 8+5, Zumsteel D10 (blue) 8 + 8, Hudson pedal resonator, 10 string lap steel. Telonics, Peavey & Webb amps,

any markings or inscriptions on the frame, magnet, etc.?

I'd say it's 70s and British made, looks like a McKenzie to me, they used them on 70s Marshalls and Park cabs

here's a pair, they look like yours:

yes, that twin is a very HEAVY beast. I've got a late seventies silverface and an original blackface 65, both sound great but they stay at home, can't be bothered to carry them around, hehe

Excellent TFT, that be them. Guess someone must have swapped out the originals at some point, I don't think Fender used these as stock speakers. Is that a picture of a pair you have yourself, do you have any info on them. There are no markings that I can find anywhere on the speakers themselves.

I was also thinking Celestion Ken, the baskets look identical to Celestions, apart from the colour.

Cheers,

Geoff

Edit - After a bit of googling, I think these are 80w speakers.
