Hi
Has anyone tried using the Peterson iPhone/ipad tuner app? If so how good is it?

I have it. It's ok, as tuners go. Might need calibrating before you start, and there are no sweetened tuning for E9. I have a much cheeper, and in my opinion, better tuner that I use to get "nearly" in tune, then finish with my strobostomp.

Ok. Do you typically tune by note ie F#, D# or by frequency?

I have a steel guitar app on the phone. I use that when fitting a new set of strings to get them close to pitch then finish with the Peterson strobostomp to be honest. I use the other iPhone tuner to tune my six string. Works a charm. Called Cleartune.
By the way. Welcome to the forum Mike. Glad you sorted your login problems

Mike...
Cleartune works well on the iPhone...
Use the bottom setting below...
The top ones I use for Peterson on iPhone.
iPad Peterson Steel Guitar Tuning as per Jeff Newman Preset
F# = +6
Eb = -5
G# = -3.5
E = +10
B = +8
G# = -3.5
F# = +6
E = +10
D = +6
B = +8
A more accurate calculation.....
F# = 441.5, or 6 cents Sharp
D# = 439, or 4 cents Flat
G# = 439, or 4 cents Flat
E = 442.5, or 10 cents Sharp
B = 442, or 8 cents Sharp
G# = 439, or 4 cents Flat
F# = 441.5, or 6 cents Sharp
E = 442.5, or 10 cents Sharp
D = 441.5, or 6 cents Sharp
B = 442, or 8 cents Sharp

Please can you explain what the frequencies mean? Is this what the tuner has to be adjusted to to achieve equal temperament? Similar to how pianos are tuned?

With sweetened tunings, do you tune the pulls to zero cents or the same as whichever particular string you are dealing with??
