C pedal and E-F knee lever on a 1-up/1-down changer?

Postby Rigby » Mon Jul 22, 2024 10:57 am

I'm tinkering with the "custom pedal steel" that I bought for a tenner last month. I now have most things working up to a point, but there's a tuning issue I am struggling with. It seems to be based on an old ZB Custom changer which is a one-up/one-down affair. Consequently, although it's set up so that the C pedal raises string 4 a whole tone and LKR raises it half a tone, there's only one tuning nut for the string 4 raise. If I tune this so that the C pedal is in tune then the LKR raise is sharp. Is there a way of adjusting this so that both can be in tune?

if its a zb changer you need to drill another hole tween the two rows wheee string 4 is to accomodate another pull rod for the E raise

Turns out whoever built this came up with a different solution that is crude but seems to work. There's a huge bolt that can be adjusted to limit the travel of the LKR so it doesn't pull the raise too far.

Does it work in the second position of the pull changer ? And can you still get the e to fsharp F-sharp

It looks as though each changer pull can accommodate two rods, one in front of the other. I think they both do the same thing by default so for example there is just one tuner for the 5th string raise even though both the A and C pedals use it. Seems the idea with the knee lever is that it just gets blocked off at the point where it's halfway through the raise.

well if it works thats all that matters i guess, I think the zb way probably looks neater but involves a bit more work.
