‘A’ Pedal Slack

Hi guys, me again!

Just wondering how I’d go about adjusting the sensitivity of a pedal. That might not be the best way of describing it, but what I mean is that, at the moment, the slightest touch on the A pedal on my guitar starts the pull.. it too sensitive for me. I’d rather have a tiny bit of a delay between pressing the pedal, and the raise starting. A bit of slack in the pedal might be the best way to describe it.

Sounds like the pedal travel needs a bit more movement. Find the "hard stop" for that pedal. Can't remember your guitar Brad, but on ShoBud and many others it's a nut and bolt on a bracket that limits the pedal-rod-bell-crank movement underneath where you hook the pedal rod. On Mullen (if I remember right) it's a grub screw through the crank, the rod itself hooks onto a little metal plate attached to the crank. Very few guitars have the adjustment below the actual pedal. Have a good look and see if you can spot the screw that has that function on yours (or post a close up of the crank and we'll see).
Loose the keep nut, back the screw off a little bit maybe 1/4 turn, and tighten up. Try that and repeat if necessary.

Most steels have a spring that holds the pedal in the up position.

This allows for a slight amount of movement of the pedal before a string is raised (if the pedal stop is correctly set)
