Cleaning!

Postby bradsteel » Sun Apr 12, 2020 6:58 pm

Not quite ‘technical’ but just wondering what products (if any) everybody uses to clean/ polish their PSG? When I say clean, I literally mean wiping down the wooden body, fretboard, legs, pedals etc.

Kind regards,

Ditto on Tony's post. Pledge is great for polishing lacquer and mica bodies, and Mothers Mag & Ali polish is brilliant for endplates and other aluminium parts. Nowhere near as abrasive as Solvol Autosol, which is okay for chromed legs. Don't forget to lubricate any moving metal parts with a Teflon based lubricant. Plenty of products available on eBay. :D

Be careful cleaning mica, it has a very thin lacquer to give it gloss. I wax the mica on my Mullen guitar with Simoniz car wax, (gold tin), I think it helps to protect the mica. I use Tri-Flow teflon lubricant which is very expensive for the mechanics.
I have just bought a cheap oil pen from Amazon, (£5) removed the oil inside and filled it up with Tri-Flow. The hole in the application needle is too large and can leak Tri-Flow so I stuck a sewing needle inside the oil pen needle applicator which gives me a very precise cheap oil pen! https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00 ... UTF8&psc=1 MODELCRAFT PRECISION LUBRICATOR. There is a aluminium oil pen on sale with a push down button, it does not work with Tri-Flow because the oil is very thin and leaks out! Charles
