Pull rod size- Opinions?

Postby Haddock » Thu Apr 02, 2020 12:20 pm

Hi all.
I had a wee visit to the underside of my guitar the other day and it occurred to me that I have quite a selection of pull rod sizes under there. The bulk would be 3.2 mm (or whatever the America’s Imperialists call that) and the majority of the new ones are 2.5mm though I think there’s at least a couple in between. Has anyone got strong views on what works best? Ive seen some guitars that can use the thicker rods to allow the pull to go round corners but I don’t have any of that, all nice straight pulls, so have never had an issue with the slight flex you get on a thinner rod. If anything, the smaller size has been very good for squeezing through the gap on the cranks more easily as a couple of my strings have 5 or six rods on them.
Very grateful for your collective wisdom.
Cheers
Calum
