A pedal binding?

Postby michael murray » Fri Nov 14, 2025 2:57 pm

So , I decided to try D'Addario NYXL strings on my Alan Black built 'Carter'. Foolishly, instead of doing it 1 string at a time, I removed all of the strings

This resulted in some of my return springs popping loose and some of the pull rods jumping out, which is how I came to need replacement dog bones.

Now when trying to tune it I find that the B-C# raise on the fifth string will not return to pitch. It comes back a semitone sharp.

When I deploy the LKV B-Bb lower, it releases and returns to pitch.

What should I be looking for?

Thanks guys.Your advice has been acted upon.

I'll be sending it back to Carrickfergus for a setup.

A little learning is a dangerous thing!
