Pedal steel build springs

Hello all,

I'm building a half complete, no brand pedal steel guitar that I've bought from a guy. Nearly every part is there except the pedal rods, (return?)springs and a corner plate to attach the springs. Also I need to mount the headstock, fretboard and charger, but first I want to complete all the parts.

Does anyone here know what type of springs are used or what properties they need? I've never played a PSG before so I don't know how much resistance the pedals and levers should have.
