PTFE Spray as a changer lubricant?

Postby JayVeeGee » Tue Mar 30, 2021 3:58 pm

.
Has anyone used PTFE spray as a lubricant when assembling a changer?

Or, has anyone any comments on its suitability (or non-suitability)?

Hi Jay

I would recommend " Tri-Flow " which contains PTFE.

Jay, I have seen this topic done a time or two i just use a light oil as you would for a sewing machine it works for me and my 70's push pull still works smooth as silk but the topic is full of opinions, maybe they got fed up talking about it.....

Thanks for your responses, Richard and John.

I have a reasonable supply of 3 in 1 oil but I've read a few 'less than positive' opinions on that so I'll be giving that a miss.

I DO have a small needle feeder bottle of thin machine oil so I think I'll go with that.

Hi Jim,
This thread might be worth a gander. If it's not too late!
I struggled to find it. Geoff's experience with the task is pretty comprehensive.........

I tried the PTFE a while back, I found it worked really well for a while then got sticky, so I went back to using sewing machine oil. When I bought my MSA they, (MSA), recommended using Regin Fan Oil which I've been using since I got the MSA, works well and comes with an extendable spout which is really handy, there is picture of it on this page if you're interested.

Hi Danny & Geoff, thanks for your input.

Danny, by the time I had read your post I had already gone ahead and done the deed! As in my previous post, I used the thin machine oil I had.

In that link you put up (as well as in other threads I've been reading) there seems to be a lot of "fors" and "againsts" almost every kind of lubricant mentioned! . . . so I just went with what I've used before.
