Nylon tuning nuts?

Hi,

This may be a silly question, but are the nylon tuners (used to tune levers and pedals) supposed to go out of tune gradually? and if so, how often do other people tend to need to retune them?

No Zak, not unless they are very slack on the rod and in need of replacement.
String tension through age and use are the detuning issues, if the nylon tuners are fitted correctly they are your last port of call for fine tuning, any major issues should be addressed at the pedal or lever stop at the cross-shaft not at the changer, constant winding of the nylon tuners will result in the mother of all problems for you, notes returning sharp and etc>>>

Hi Bob, thanks for the reply. Very interesting, yet also worrying haha...

I'm not too sure what to think. The de-tuning is very gradual and slight (for example, it'll take months of daily play for it to go out of tune by a few beats.. But it's still quite noticeable to me).

I do wonder if the tuning nuts may need replacing. The guitar (Mullen D10) is about 20 years old, and the C6 neck wasn't used for at least 10 years before I bought it last september.
