Volume pedals

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I couldn't find anything. I'm wondering whether to invest in either a Goodrich or a Hilton pedal. I'm using a Boss pedal which does the job but is BIG. What advantages do the G and the H have over the Boss other than having a more compact profile?

Hi Peter, welcome to the forum, I think the Goodrich is probably the best "Bang for Buck" that's available they are very reliable but pots do wear out over time..... Re.Hilton or Telonics you will have a power lead that in time will get squished under the legs of your stool (however careful you are!) make sure you carry a spare power supply.......

Thanks John. That's really good to know. I was hoping there'd be a big difference in performance (every little helps!) If there isn't, I might stick with what I have and put up with the clunkyness of its casing.

I've been on the forum for a while, just don't post too often - there's usually an answer to my (psg) problems somewhere on here. I bought my first psg from you, actually, John - a blond Bennet which I got the summer before last. I've got a GFI Now though which I love.

Peter, I have both pedals, there is a difference in tone between them, the Hilton gives same tone all way through it's travel, the Goodrich varies in tone through travel.Both are excellent pedals, and everyone has their own opinion of them.Pro/ cons-- Hilton is more expensive, powered by wall wart, has no pot to replace, Goodrich unpowered, up until recently the available replacement pots did not last and expensive, they have now come up with their version of the Dunlop pot, which should help with reliability.I got my Hilton four years ago because of Goodrich pot problem, some only lasted a few weeks , others a few months, so purchased the Hilton, the extra cost mitigated the cost of all the replacement pots.I got a spare wall wart at time but have never had to use it.If you know anyone who has either pedal ask if you can try them and see what suits you best.

By the way, am I right in thinking you play with Martin Stephenson? If so, you sound great on the new version of Boat to Bolivia. If not, someone else does! I've been to a few of Martin's songwriting weekends in Dumfries. I took my pedal steel last time - there's a great little video clip Martin took of other guitarists looking at it with confused expressions on their faces

I've not been to a guitar weekend but quite a few of the songwriting crew are regulars. Always a lovely weekend by all accounts - lovely people and a beautiful setting.

I have Hilton and Goodrich pedals and I prefer to work with my Artec because the quality of the sound and it is easier to tune (maxi and mini point pots)
