Pedal steel comparison

Tue Mar 06, 2018 11:24 pm

I have always struggled to get a warm tone, as it seems my sound tends towards being thin. Having tried various pick ups and amps, ruled out my right hand being the issue, I want to try another pedal steel. Is there anyone who would be willing to get together with me one afternoon or evening and spend a couple of hours perhaps trade a few licks, and compare sounds?

I live in Bournemouth and would be willing to travel up to an hour or 2.

Let me know.

Nick

PS: I have been playing for 10 years and have a Carter SD10, currently with a Tonealigner, a Hilton volume pedal and a Milkman pedal steel mini.

I find that I can get a warmer tone by picking gently (not harshly) 12 frets up (approximately) from wherever my bar is. I have the bass set quite high on my amp, the middle frequencies cut at 800 Hz, and the treble fairly low.
