I was having a bit of a problem in as much as I was getting buzzing on my 2nd and 3rd strings, I tried all the usual things, nothing worked so being a bit fed up I decided to make a set of changer fingers out of brass and get them chrome plated to see if that would make any difference, What a difference, not only did it make the pedal action smoother but a complete difference in tone. I am now thinking of trying different metals to see what difference they will make. Mild steel, stainless steel, nimonic, even titanium. Expensive, yes but I have some good friends..

Have you ever considered getting your changer rollers hard anodised? That's another option.

Hi Ken, yes I have considered that, but the guy at the platers reckoned I might have to get the fingers ground as hard anodising actually adds thickness unlike Chrome plating. Also it is a lot more expensive to anodise than chrome. I paid £20 to have 12 of these brass fingers chromed and £35 to have these 10 pull release fingers hard anodised (black.)

Your platers are very reasonable with their prices Dave. That chrome plated finger looks great. Most of the manufacturers in the USA don't like stainless fingers, preferring alloy fingers. Mullen hard anodise their changer rollers as does our own Dave Wheelhouse. Anodising prevents grooving by the strings.
