Goodrich VP pot replacement

Mon Oct 05, 2015 5:33 pm

I'm looking for a saviour!

My low profile Goodrich volume pedal is starting to get 'scratchy' and needs replacing.

I know replacement pots are available via Gerry Hogan and I'll be putting in an order asap. Do I need a replacement string as well - i.e. do they need to be replaced at the same time?

Do fellow steelers know of an agency/organisation I can send my pedal to for this work to be done? I wouldn't have a clue how to do this myself and I do not have the tools or technical know-how and explaining the process to me would be like teaching the Green Cross Code to a cocker spaniel!

I'm happy to cover all postage charges both ways and of course pay for the work itself to be done.

I'm in the Newcastle area but can post UK-wide.

many thanks for any forthcoming advice/info.

PM me and I will arrange to do this for you. FOC - you just pay the post charges.

What a great forum this is. Ken very kindly volunteered to replace the scratchy pot free of charge - a very generous gesture as I'm sure Ken is very busy with his recording, gigging and teaching schedules. The pedal is in the post! I've made a donation to the forum by way of thanks.

Update on pots, as many of you will know Goodrich is in new ownership and have announced on US Forum that their "new pot" is now in stock, after testing many pots PEC, etc, but have opted for the Dunlop pot, albeit a modified version with a round shaft rather than the D shaped one , and is longer with a slot at end for easier adjustment.

The pot that Malcolm refers to above is probably the best long-term bet. I will enclose a new spare pot with your pedal FOC in case the one I have installed doesn't last as long as you want it to. I have had to hunt around for a correct sized torx key to remove the collar from your old pot. Just found one so I will get your pedal off to you this evening. Most collars are attached with an Allen wrench or a Phillips head screw.

I have been hit today by an unexpected problem. The double oven in the kitchen caught fire in the wiring at the rear last night, so I had to buy a replacement today and fit it. That has put me behind schedule as I have a load of recording work to do plus Nick's pedal.

I appeal to Malcolm McMiser's better nature and ask him to loan me the money for the oven, as he knows how poor I am!!
