Renovating my new/old Zum from 1978

Sat Jan 18, 2014 7:29 am

Hi there steel friends. I bought myself an new/old steel the other week. It's a ZUM s-10 from 1978. Number 0033. I have Heard and seen old Sho-Bud's get faded in the color through the years! This ZUM must be a kind of record holder I guess  Light Brown today and when it was made it was blue! The guitar is a Little gem, sustain that is super and the cabinet drop is almost not possible to hear!
I was told that this was the first ZUM that was sold to Euroupe! Maybe it's true? I bought it from a guy in FInland. The body looks good so I will let the faded color be as it is.

You tell us that the guitar is a little gem, with good sustain and minimal cab drop, so my advice to you is 'If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It'

Hi Rickard. Hahaha, yes I would have been happy to leave as it was but that was not an option for me. The pre owners to this guitar did not have the knowledge how to let it stay in perfect order. The pedal set up was very strange and to much dry thick oil in the changer etc. It will be easier to play after the work on it!

You better hold your horses Uncle Roy :) It will be played and Heard some day but not in the comming week for sure. Need to get the alu polished first, I had a chat with my Janet's uncle who has a mechanical work shop. If its possible he will help me in this matter. I would also try to get a pair of new knee levers, two of them here is not so good!

nice job Uffe
i have'nt seen too many early Zums
seeing yours is a treat
try contacting Bruce Z, i'm sure he'll help you w: parts
according to the serial number it originally had 3 pedals & 3 levers
& seems to be the 33rd built
i'd love to hear it & read your opinion on it once you get it finished & playable
