B+C pedals + E lower lever

There's a lovely 'falling' sequence in the minor key - (e.g In Michelle, by the Beatles), where the lyrics go 'You can say the only words I know'...

Now, in theory (and at any given fret, playing) strings 4,5,& 6 you should get this falling line with B+C, then B+C+E lower, then A+B, then A+B+E lower...

When I engage the E lower lever with B+C the E doesn't lower enough and is sharp, although it's spot on with A+B pedals.

Is this something to do with the way the guitar is set up, or can this move only be achieved with 'split tuning' (which I don't have on my guitar) - or maybe you just can't use this move at all?

I know you can get this effect elsewhere on the guitar, so it's not a biggie, but it would be good to know the answer.

why not sustitute B C E for B and F. Would give you the same notes, no? that way, you could roll off the C pedal and engage the F lever.

no it wont! I just tried. You lose the note on string 5, unless you hope across to A & B, but thats not as smooth. Sounds ok though if you can get the chage quick enough.

I am no expert on these clever toons cos I did`ent get any minors with my steel and I am trying to get them retro fitted but when I have a bash at it .... it seems the Tom Brumly "together again " move on 3 and 5 will do the job nicely

Not quite sure what the Tom Brumley move is - did he play chess, perhaps?
My question was more about the mechanics of psg. I can find alternatives for this sequence (or just a slight bar slant will mean the E lower is accurate, but my question was really about the mechanics of psg. Should the B+C+E move sound ok if the guitar is set up correctly, or can it be achieved only with split tuning?

Nick my understanding is that if you raise and lower a string simultaneously it is unlikely to be accurate without a split tuning mechanism.

According to what Gordon told me even Emmons was very impressed with the move TB came up with in "together again" .......

strings 3 and 5 with A pedal in ...let A pedal halfway off..... let A pedal all the way off ...... move down one fret and on the way down, swap the A pedal for the B pedal once you get that slicker than cat sh$&t you have cracked it!!

Sorry Nick I know nothing about mechanics cannot advise re your ??

to obtain the right note on the half step lower on string 4 w: B & C engaged, yes you need to tune it w: a " split "
mickey adams helped set it up on my zum - it was done in a flash
