Just started with the pedal Steel (Purchased of BSS member Jason Lynch the other day and very happy with it!) after a long, long life of Dobro/Steel and guitar playing. Now, either I have an unfeasibly long right leg or my trusty Ernie Ball Volume pedal is not suited to playing with a Pedal Steel. The travel is too long on it and I get stuck quite frequently at Half volume (Which just will not do!). Do I need to raise the steel? Do I need a new pedal? Do I need a Shorter right leg?

raising the steel is one way.
it can be a bit of a chore if you want to raise all the legs cos u need to adjust the pull rods to match the change of the front legs, and this might require pull rod extensions (am i right in calling the vertical rod pull rods or are they the horizontal ones between the bell cranks and changer?).
i had the same problem and just raised the back legs so my steel angles forward. some say this is bad. i quite like it cos it means when i leave my bar sitting on the steel it never falls off! (cos it rolls against the raised fretboard). it also feels a bit like riding a bike with drop handlebars, a bit more driven!
another option is to get a low profile vol pedal (or as you say one with a shorter travel).
or have a section of your lower leg removed! no pain no gain, as they say..!
