Someone to give pedal steel a once over, ideally South West

Postby lebedagirl » Mon Oct 19, 2026 9:53 am

Hello,

I'm playing an old Cliff White pedal steel at the moment which tonally is everything I want it to be, and I love the look of it, too. Mechanically, I think it could do with some work though. Main issues being the adjustable legs are seized so it currently sits at a bit of a wonky angle, and also tuning. The legs need some serious brute force I think, which I definitely can't do. I imagine the tuning is probably something I could work on myself if I had the time/mental capacity to think it through, but if I'm realistic I'm never going to find that moment. Is there anyone who could help with these issues, ideally within a couple of hours from Bath?

Thanks!
Laura

I would be glad to help you Laura but I am in st neots and that is a bit of a hike away. I still have a couple of white parts kicking around as I bought the leftovers when Cliff passed

Thanks John. If I can't find someone closer (you're about 3 hours from me) I'll definitely bring it over to you at some point - just a case of finding time to do that trip which is tricky.

A few years back I had some legs that were seized on my Thomas. After weeks of failure I finally managed to loosen using a couple of strap wrenches which helped grip and add brute force.
i used strap wrench like this
Allan J. Kelly
GFI Ultra | Thomas SD10 | Rains SD10 -> Hilton -> Pedal Board -> Fender Tone Master Twin Reverb
Bars: Emmons, BJS, Ezzee Slide, Sonic Sound

What actually is wrong with the legs, I live in South Glos about 9 miles from Bath, I do have an item like Allen posted I don’t know if I can help no promises.
