Steel Vacancy soon at Bulkington club

Up to about a month ago I had really good hearing in the one remaining ear that still worked..... The other one was taken out by a Peavey Bandit about thirty years ago, then about a month ago they sent me for a hearing test at the local medical centre, and the equipment they used I reckon belonged in a museum ,
Since then I now hear an engine running in the ear that was deaf and my good ear is no longer... if I pick a note, I hear two notes and one of them is out of tune. Unless the hospital can help (waiting for referral) I cannot get any pleasure out of playing with a band so I will just finish the year off and that's it!

The Austin Pickers band is a steel players dream, if you like the old Country They do some Ray Price and some western swing all of what they do gives the Steel a chance to shine and the best bunch of guys I have ever worked with.... They meet, the second Tuesday of the month, come on over :)

Hey I am sorry to hear of (no pun intended) your health problems JD, I hope you can get some good news when you eventually get to see a specialist at the hospital. Mate old age don't carry much good news does it. Best wishes.

Really sorry to hear that John, it sounds awful. Hopefully it's a passing condition or something they can treat. Your band will miss you.

Hi John, I suffer from a condition called Meniers Disease, basically it is tinitus with periodic bouts of vertigo, when it comes on I get, just as you describe, two notes, and for someone who plays a non fretted instrument can be quite distressing.
This has been kept in check by taking simple antihystamine pills
See what your Quack says
Asleep at the steel

Pretty sure Ménière's is the thing that made Lloyd Green quit for a couple of years. I recall him saying something about two tones with one detuned. Worth looking into. Good luck with it JD.

Really sorry to hear this John - sounds awful in any circumstances, but as a musician it must be rotten.
My hearing is going. I invested in high quality hearing aids which are infinitely adjustable and it might be worth discussing your condition with a private audiologist (Boots are pretty good) as they can make all sorts of adjustments to aids (tone, speech, background noise etc) which are not routinely available on the NHS. Expensive, but that's why you keep all the good steels you've got - for a 'rainy day'!
Best of luck.
