Had a phone call last night from Cliff Austin who runs the monthly Jam at Bulkington to tell me the Ken Harris has died, Ken was well known around the Leicester area for his band "Ken Harris and the Playboys" , he also started what was then mostley Bluegrass music at the Bulkington club. I think to mark his passing we may be playing a slightly different programme this coming Tuesday .......

Sad news for sure, yet another one leaves us.
I worked with Ken as the steelie in the Playboys at the time Patsy left to start the Goodtimers, I decided to stay with Patsy and helped form the new band. Ken took the Playboys towards bluegrass (his real love) a great guy a great talent,, he will be sadly missed on the UK scene
Godbless ya Ken.

Yes very sad news, I have known Ken for many years and went to the Bulkington meeting last night for the very first time, (not that it's very far from me I just don't have the transport.) It was in effect a memorial meeting and I met a lot of old friends, many of whom I had worked with in the past. JD was there with one of his shop full of Emmons steels, Ok I think he's only got about 20 left now, LOL, anyway John invited me to do a couple of numbers on his Emmons and I made a bit of a balls up because I kept forgetting his knee levers are different to mine, but I have to say, I have never really been an fan of the Emmons push pull but now, after playing John's last night I am going to have to win the lottery or pack up playing.
It really was the sweetest sounding guitar I have ever played. Thank you John, and as for Ken, well gone but will never be forgotten. R.I.P.

I'm not so far behind you Slim in years on this planet. I read a lot and write for various local government papers. My spelling has to be on the ball, and I always run a spell checker in case a typo has slipped through. Back to Ken Harris - I saw him a number of times at the Ponderosa country music venue in the 70's. One of the better quality acts to have come out of the UK.
