SPENCER SCOTT RIP

Postby Ken Byng » Sun Oct 14, 2018 9:11 am

I have been informed this morning that Spencer passed away during the night. He had been in hospital for around 3 weeks, and gradually his health had become critical. He rang me three days ago, and sounded extremely weak. My heart goes out to to his daughter and his brother. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Unbelievably there are already people jockeying for position to acquire Spence's considerable collection of pedal steels, guitars, amps and accessories. It is for his next of kin or his executor to dispose of his possessions, once the legal process has been followed. I would imagine that his daughter is devastated by her loss and the last thing she will be thinking about is disposing of his musical paraphernalia. The poor guy hasn't been gone for a day!!

A sad loss to the UK and indeed the world wide steel guitar scene. Spence was an excellent player but above all he was a really nice guy, as I am sure everyone who knew him will testify. My sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

It's a real shock, although I knew things weren't going too well health-wise for him.
I remember first meeting him in the 70's when doing a 2 band gig in Faversham. I think the name of his band then was Rooster Booster or something like that.
He was a mine of information about the steel scene and knew many of the top players Stateside.

Heard about it from his best mate Pete Jones who had known him for years.
Sympathies to his family.

R.I.P. Spence

Oh my... shocked to read this... he certainly was a real nice guy and good company. Recall sitting in the Dallas main hall on many occasions chatting about this player and that player, the gear, etc and a few laughs... One time contemplating if he should hire a private jet... another year there was the knighthood story... What a real loss... RIP my friend and our sincere condolences to your family.
