Beautiful country, I spent a year there in the 70s, very friendly people.

Never been there Ron, fancy going at some point, but will probably take a less risky form of transport than sailing the seven seas.

Aye, it's a great place to see. The landscape's like nothing I'd ever seen before. My eldest son's been living there for 7 years and loves it. On our last visit we stayed in a cabin, smack dab in the middle of the island, and we could see 3 separate glaciers at 3 different points on the horizon, and, as a bonus, we saw the Northern Lights :P
I'm looking forward to hearing some of Calum's seafaring tales.

Sweet memories, Ron. In the parlance of the 70s, 'It must've been a gas, man!'.

Way to go Ron, you can take the man out of Lo'gelly... ;) 8-)

In the poster they have you titled as just McLaren, my wife (who was also a McLaren btw) was explaining to me how the Icelanders name system works, they take their fathers first name and stick son on the end of it. Doesn't explain just using your surname though. Were you performing a solo set?

Yeah, music seems to be a real thing up there, Sigur Ros used the full Reykjavik brass band on stage for one of their songs, and Bjork had an Icelandic womens brass section which numbered around a dozen players she used to take on tour. I saw Bjork at the Inverary Festival a few years back and she had a pedal steel player playing for the full set.

Will defo get there at some point, maybe next year all going well. Will speak to you Danny about best times to go etc, and where you can get cheap drink

Anyway, Mr McLean has been back in Caledonia for a few days now, so looking forward to hearing his tales of giant octopus and a sea shanty on the pedal steel :guitar: :guitar:

Your wife is correct Jif, the surname of the male has the fathers name with 'son' at the end, and the girls have the fathers name with 'dottir' added, these are the only two clippings I have, my mother kept them or they would have been chucked as well, both of these were solo gigs with the house band backing in both cases, the one at 'Glaesibae' was a sort of nightclub, on one of the sets we ran out of prepared material, it was a 7 piece dance band so I did some Elvis impersonations in a kilt, the audience loved it and the floor manager pulled me back down from the dressing room to do some more encores. It was a fun time.
