Ron's funeral will be on Monday, 7th Sept. at 12.00 in the funeral home of John Fraser & Son, Chapel Street, Inverness; thereafter to Tore Cemetery. Sheena.

So sad to hear this, yes RIP Ron. I sent one of his PSGs to be adjusted by him. Had a couple of chats with him and Sheena. But then his health declined and Sheena had to send my Bennett back.
Coincidentally my boyhood friend from Beckenham, Kent, Crispin Henderson who was keen on ham radio. He died on the 23rd of August 2012 and is buried at the Tore Burial Ground, only 200m from his antennas. If you Google street view for 2012 just down from the cemetery, you can see all his antennas in his garden.

Sad news. I didn't know Ron but had heard great things about him. I very recently got to try one of his pedal steels, which was very nice.

That's very sad. Didn't know him, but I have one of his instruments, which I love, and it's clear that he's been a huge part of the steel guitar community in this country.

Very sad to hear this, I met him once when he was doing some work on a Bennett I then owned, lovely chap.

This is such sad news, I contacted Ron many years ago to see if he could convert my Sho-Bud LDG to a D10, I sent it up to him on the train, and after a while he range me to say, 'its a bit faded under the pad, which will show with the C6th neck on' would you like me to re- finish it, I've got some green dye you might like.
A few weeks later the steel arrived , I opened the case to find what I can only describe as a bright Kermit Green D10 Steel! It was a shock at first, but after a while I came to love it, and those of you who have seen it seemed to like it.
Lloyd Green had a play on it, and said Ronnie has done a good job on this guitar I know him well and he is a brilliant engineer, then he signed underneath it for me.
Jimmy Crawford had a go on it and said 'Hey man has this thing been re-cycled?
It became known as the 'Green Machine' and after playing it a few times at Gerry's Festivals in Newbury, Gerry said some people asked him 'are you having that guy back with the green steel, I don't think my playing was good enough for them to remember my name.

There can’t be many British steel guitarists who don’t know Ron’s name and good reputation. My first guitar was a converted 2+2 Maverick he had fixed up and I had a nice chat with him on the phone years later about ZB’s, but his own guitars are obviously his legacy and he built many fine instruments which will go on making music for years to come. A great loss, RIP Ronnie.

So sad to hear of Ron’s passing, met him many times , my sister in law stayed near him at one point, so always took my steel down( ShoBud at that time) he spent a day with me showing me how to adjust everything on it, and later added levers for me. Thank you Ron, your instructions have helped me out over the years, a true gentleman and master builder and player. A massive loss for the steel guitar world. Sincere condolences to his wife and family.
