Today is a sad day for me, as I will be attending a send off for my best friend and steel guitar mentor Jim Smith who passed away last week.
those who knew him, will remember he was a most generous man, with an incredible ability and creative mind, to build just about anything.
He started me off on pedal steel guitar and between us we built my first one called a 'Redstone Custom' the name came from the stage name of his Dad who was a performing musician and his stage name was Red Stone.

Awful news Dave, I only met him at Uncle Roys meetings but such a sweet player... yet another sad loss may he rest in peace.

I am sorry to hear this Dave, I don't think that I knew him, we did have another member by the same name who use to attend our meetings way back but unfortunately he passed many moons ago and I think that is who JD is referring to.
Condolences to Jim's family.

When I moved from Birmingham to Kent to join Sounds Country, Dave and Jim came over to my digs in Ash to chat steel and look over my Sho Bud Pro, great lads and obvious even then that Jim was A talented builder. It also started a long time friendship between Dave and myself, playing lots of gigs together, happy days and sweet memories.
God bless you Jim.

So sorry to hear this sad news Dave, A smooth player and a Genuinely good guy. The last time that i saw him was at the Walnut Tree Pub in Ditton. Playing alongside Bob Bartell. Many years ago. He always made time to talk to anyone about the steel. R I P Jim
