Hi guys. Im completely new to lap steel. Not only lap steel, I have never pick up a guitar in my life. I have always wanted to play guitar but have very large club like fingers with makes it vitually impossible to get the dexterity to play. Ive always been fascinated with slide and only the other day whilst doing an internet search discovered flat steel guitar. This gives me the opportunity to play guitar without the complicated fret work and i can use picks as well. I understand that it is still not an easy instrument to play but I am extremely focused and patient and cant wait to start learning. As I have never played a guitar before i dont know whether thats a good thing or not, no bad habits etc. Could the forum recommend some good literature please. Been looking at guitars for beginners and there's been some good reviews on the Airline, what are your thoughts please. Thanks.

Hello and welcome Mark.
You've come to the right place, I'm not a lap player myself but you'll get sound advice here. A good place to have a look is at the Lap steel lessons on the Sierra Steel Guitars site. Great beginners tips and exercises.
Good luck with your steely journey.

Hi Mark - decent lap steel guitars come up fairly regularly on this forum, or there's on-line auctions. If you want a new guitar I, and most others on here, would recommend you avoid one with an adjustable bridge (strat type). Steel guitars don't need them, a straightforward piece of angle metal is best; for various reasons including sustain. Try to get in touch with one of us for a visit to talk over what kind of music you want to make and, therefore, the best sort of guitar to go for (6 string or 8 string or . . etc.) - so let's know whereabouts you are.
Welcome aboard, Tony. :D
PS they are pretty easy to make too!!!
