Newbie!

Greetings from sunny Blisworth!

I'm about to take the plunge and get my first lap steel - looking for recommendations. Budget is £200 so quite tight. I've seen a Skylark on eBay which comes with a case, no neck markings though. Are Revelation any good?

Sorry if I seem a bit thick, just need guidance :)

Ed

Haven't played the ones you mention.
But in your budget, Recording King comes to mind, and I think they are good price/quality ratio

Here's a link to a recent discussion on various models. You will find much useful advice on choice of guitar and steel.
Otherwise, very warm welcome to this forum and please ask for advice on any aspect.
Regards, Tony. :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

Thank you responderators.....as I'm 100% new to this instrument I've gone for a relatively cheap one, the Revelation. Entwhistle pick up looks strong so all the guitar has to do is stay in tune. 30 years of bass and it's come to this...... :)

Have you actually bought it yet? That "strat" type of bridge with individual saddles is used because it's readily available to manufacturers. But it's wrong for steel guitar :( where a solid bridge (and nut) are the thing. The bridge needs to be straight along it's top line and compensation is not needed - a piece of angle iron would do, it's that simple. Basil's recommendation in that linked thread is the way to go if you can swap over. Good luck anyway. T.

Thanks for the bridge tip - someone else had a Revelation to learn on three years who and is still using it, and someone else wanted me off the start bridge type. So, yes, I've bought it and I'll post how I get on. The pick up is an Entwhistle, and I've only heard good things about them. The Rvelation is sold, I think, in the US as Rogue, and they seem to have a good rep.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I'll keep you all informed. My wife thinks I've gone mad btw :)
