Now that the shock has subsided, I'd better tell you my reasons for wanting to pick up what must be one of the most difficult instruments that it's possible to learn.
Because I decided to take early retirement, I determined that I should take up the cudgels and get on with it [you know, keep the brain cells active, along with the fingers, knees, ankles and feet]. So now I've got a Carter Starter, Boss volume pedal, Roland Cube 80 XL, a Peterson tuner (well, I thought it was mandatory !!), numerous leads (including a George L make-up), some fingerpicks, and a couple of dozen teaching videos. All I need is enough time to get to grips with it all...
I'm in Edinburgh - so I am not able to get the benefit of the Scottish group's meetings (Tuesday nights are a no-no for me). I know Willie Murdoch well (I played bass with him for a couple of years) and Alan Thomson in Elgin (I knew him at school !!!), but although Willie would tell me stories about steelies he knew (don't worry, Willie, I won't tell!
), I've only met Willie G (at a gig we were playing).Anyway, I'm here now so I hope I won't be "pruned" for a while!!
