New member with Health Problems

Hi folks from N.Ireland.(yes Ted Nesbitt's country).Just home from hospital where I added to my collection of coronary artery stents.I play a Mullen SD10 thru a PV Nash 112 but cannot lift heavy objects in the future. Any suggestions how I can keep the weight down but keep a good sound ? I will not give up playing the PSG. Bryan

Hi Bryan, thats the spirit! no compromise, no surrender! I too well past my sell by date but still lugging Fender twins around with huge speakers....... not quite in your class of disability but slowing down fast......
anyway, welcome to the madhouse, we need all the help we can get here
Suggestions.....
1. Go and see Ted again and buy another Mullen ..... leave it set up in the front room, saves all that lugging about when you do get a gig as you keep the gigging guitar in the boot and let the rest of the band bring it in for you.
this has the effect of getting you to practise more as the guitar in the front room (set up) is always available.
2. show consideration for the other band members by investing in a fold up trolley (it will make them take better care of your gear)
Apart from that a lighter guitar for the gigging side of it and keep the Mullen at home
On the good side, I have worked with lots of muso`s who have had those stents fitted they all seem to have the same determination to keep going and enjoy their music ........
I am sure you will get a lot more sensible suggestions on here they are a good bunch of twangers... is that the correct collective noun for steel players??????

Hi Bryan, Welcome to the site, We have met a couple of times when i have nipped over to the NISGA meetings to collect gear from Ted, sorry to hear of your health issues, but delighted to hear of your determination to keep going, its a difficult one regarding weight, cos im sure you dont want to really play anything other than your Mullen, i know i wouldn't, the fold up trolley sounds a good idea, its just the initial lifting in and out of the car, im sure a hatchback is a lot more practical for you than lifting a steel and amp into a car boot, im sure you have already realised that, a lot of guys are raving about the Gallien Krueger amplifiers, is it the mb200, weighing in at something like 2 lb in weight, adding their own 1 x 12 lightweight speaker and cab, there is a very lightweight speaker out there, not sure of the name, and you would just need to add a reverb and/or a delay pedal, i know Malcolm, in Scotland has an MB 200 set up, Malcolm, if you see this post, would you give us your views and advice regarding the GK MB200 ? that would be great, i think im right in saying that this set up wont break the bank either, you could then leave the nashville 112 at home, or even sell it to fund a new lightweight set up, so you do have options,

Hello Brian, welcome to the site, I to had health problems and was unable to lift my Blanton D10, and I bought a 600 series Williams, a great wee guitar to play and lift, now my health is on the up and up ( thanks again Henry ), I gig the Williams and leave the Blanton set up at home.

Many thanks for all the ideas and suggestions. This is very encouraging for the future.You're right Eddie,I love my Mullen and don't want to part with it unless I really have to. The MB200 would seem a good way to go.Thanks again Bryan.
