Hello All,

I'm a lap steel player looking to start playing pedal steel. I've been fascinated with pedal steel ever since hearing BJ Cole playing with R.E.M. on Later with Jools Holland.

The mechanical complexity of the instrument has been a bit of a barrier to buying one - how do I fix it if something goes wrong - so any recommendations for reading materials on how they work mechanically would be gratefully received.

I love the lower range you get with a 12 string pedal steel so hopefully a U12 is in my future!
