Having up-graded to a beautiful 1970's Lloyd Green Sho Bud, (thanks, John Davies), my Fender Blues Junior as an amplifier is not quite making it or doing it justice. I have borrowed a friends Peavey Blues 15 inch speaker, which was lovely but it's heavy. The Peavey Nashville 211 with a twelve inch speaker is recommended as it's specifically aimed at pedal steel players but there are criticisms of lack of bass, so a Roland Cube? Any other suggestions about an appropriate amplifier for use in a studio and to be used on stage gratefully received.

Hi Phil, I have been using a Peavey 112 with a Telonics neo speaker fitted for approximately 12 months now and I can honestly say it is a wonderful amp, no issues whatsoever
Prior to that I played through a Nashville 400 since 1986 but it finally gave up the ghost early last December and I purchased the 112 from Richard Stanton, great amp

Phil, you can probably buy two Roland cubes for the price of a Peavey and carry one in each hand, that's what I do and I stack one on top of the other as I like to hear what I am doing it takes away the need for an amp stand. If an amp goes down I still have the other one with a line out and can finish the job. A single cube may struggle in a loud band situation but fit JBL E120's and no one blows you away.
You also have the mini jack line in to play your tracks through for when you do solo gig or just rehearse.

Hello Willie
I've got a pair of PV 112s, that I didn't like the tone of with the stock Blue Marvel speakers, but the Eminence Double T 12” speakers that I replaced them with bring the 2 amps to life. Can I ask what the top end is like with the Telonics speaker in yours?

Hi Ken, let me start by saying, " I have no concept of tone whatsoever" when I first got the amp I was warned it was a tad toppy, and it appeared to be so, but a bit of tweaking soon sorted that out, and now I am a very happy camper.
Changing from the 400 to a 112 was a bit of a leap ( and I do miss my 400), but I can carry the 112 with one hand, so that in part made up for it.
I do trust both Lady Byng and your good self are doing well.

We are both well thanks, but we're into old old age now. I have a NV 400 and a PV Jazz 400. But with a Black Widow in each they are fairly heavy. I now have 11 PV amps, plus a Telonics TCA 500 and a Webb 614 E amp with an Eminence Travis Toy 15" which is my favourite all time amp. I also have a couple of Roland 80XL Cubes which are pretty good. I've got so many amps I can hardly get into my studio. I think I might have to off load some of my amps this year 'cos I don't need them all.
Take care buddy - you're one of the best UK steelers that I've heard, and your tone is exemplary.

Yes Donny
He's a modest young fellow. If you and I tell him in each ear at the same time, he'll hear it in stereo.
