Hi Everyone,
What brings me here?
I'm a gigging guitarist with a long standing desire to try a pedal-steel guitar. I've never been within touching distance of one, but absolutely love the sound whenever I hear it!
So I'm going to lurk about here and see what's going on, and maybe pounce on any opportunity to meet up with some actual players and pick their brains.
Cheers,
Marty

Welcome Marty,
Lurk away! But beware, once you get your mitts on one it won't be too long until you're completely addicted, like the rest of us in the SSGW (Steelie's Support Group West)

Hi Donny,
Been a while since I posted here, but the 'itch' hasn't gone away.
Any chance you can send me contact details of steel players in the Aberdeenshire area you know of?
Does the last Tuesday every month meet still happen down in the central belt? I'd love to make the effort to come down for a visit in 2026!
Many thanks!

Hi Marty, the Scottish Steel Guitar Workshop meets on the FOURTH Tuesday of the month, in the community hall in Gartcosh and you would be made most welcome..
The guys who attend are a great bunch, what's not to enjoy
Come along to any meeting, we arrived at 7.00 for an 8.00 start, remember Fourth Tuesday, not the last Tuesday

Hi Willie,
Thanks for the info and the clear distinction about FOURTH not LAST Tuesday. I’m going to stick some dates in my calendar and see when I can juggle some work commitments, as Gartcosh is almost 3 hours drive for me. Would love to meet everyone and hear some playing first hand.
Cheers!

Well, I finally have done it and purchased a PSG from the very lovely and super helpful
John Davis!
I have added the
SSGW 2026 meetup dates to my calendar, and hope to make it along to one at some point soon to share in this madness!

Hi Marty, welcome to the "must be mad to want to play this thing crew". Hope you are getting to grips with your new instrument. It's a bit daunting at first, but worth it.
I know it's a bit of a drive from Aberdeen to Gartcosh, however it's a trip worth making, the guys there will set you on the right path. I learned a lot from attending these meets, even just watching the players is an education in technique.
Unfortunately I can no longer attend due to my health, but would recommend a visit, even just once to get you started.
All the best.
