Hi from Scotland

Postby 2pods » Fri Jun 09, 2023 11:59 am

Hi

I've been playing slide for about 15 years.
I love Ry Cooder, Lowell George etc, but I've been listening to some really nice Lap Steel with palm benders.
One of our locals had something like this on his Strat around about the mid 70s, so with all that in mind,
I decided to sign up and glean what I can from the Hive Mind ;)

With my Strat, I usually use open G (D G D G B D) and just change position except for A, where I'll just capo at the 2nd fret. Now and again open E.
I used Open G, Dropped D, Double Drop D, Dadgad on acoustic

For the moment, I'd be looking towards lap steel, rather the pedal steel, due to space, and fear of the "engineering"
Looking forward to finding out things

Hi man, welcome to the forum. You've come to the right place, plenty of info here and players with tons of experience in a variety of genres and instruments.

Like you love Ry Cooder, saw him a lot of years ago in Edinburgh, was brilliant. Lowell George is my all time favourite bottleneck player, or should that be socket wrench player, left us too soon.

Where are you based? The guys here have a meeting every month in Gartcosh just outside Glasgow, mostly pedal steel but sometimes guys will bring a dobro or a lap steel with hand levers such as the Duesenberg.

I play mainly pedal steel but also have a Weissenborn acoustic lap which sounds great.

Anyway, welcome and hope you find what you're looking for here :guitar:

Thanks Jif

Unfortunately, I rarely travel now (I don't gig anymore either), but I'm based in Gourock, Inverclyde.
I'm seriously thinking about a Duesenberg Fairytale over the next few months, depending on finances etc
