Hi everyone, I am a new member and just wanted to introduce myself to the group. My name is Ed and I am a complete novice, having decided to purchase a pedal steel and teach myself to play it. I have recently bought a Redstone Custom, which I have learned were made by Jim Smith (sorry to hear of his recent passing). I am currently cleaning and recommissioning it as I don't think it had been used for some years. I would be pleased to hear from anyone on the site who knows anything of its history. It has a plaque on the front with the name Robbie engraved on it. If you've any info I'd be happy to hear from you.

Hi Ed welcome to the fold, its great to hear of someone new learning the PSG. you will find all the help that you need on here my friend. there is so much experience in guys like John Davis, Ken Byng and others. too many to name lol. my advice take their advice. I knew Jim Smith and he was an honest, genuine man and a very good steel player. a brilliant builder. so sad to hear of his passing.
I was so lucky to be taught by my friend and mentor the great Gordon Huntley, he told me to go out and watch as many other steel players as possible and Jim was one as well as Pete willsher and Ed payne to name a few.
Dave Kirk was a good friend of Jims so as well as John he would know things about the Redstone. oh by the way ive been playing for 49/50 years and im still learning lol
The pedal steel is the most beautiful sounding instrument that there is on this earth Ed, at times you will find it frustrating but stick with it. it will bring you so much pleasure and joy.
