HI,

This is just a quick note to introduce myself. I am 53 years old and recently (just before lockdown) moved to the UK from New Zealand where I have been a professional musician/producer for pretty much all my adult life. I've had a bit of a fight with Arthritis in my left hand which has put a stop to playing fretted instruments and keyboards (my mainstay of income). Therefore I have decided to dabble with steel which I've always been fascinated by since touring with some great players in the '80s.

I have a particular interest in Western Swing and Jazz so most of my steels are setup for C6, I'm also really fond of the non-pedal sound but :censored: it's hard to play...... I will definitely be in the market for a serious D10 as soon as I can afford it but I am currently without an income so that will have to wait.

My favourite piece of steeling to date is Bobby Flores version of Bubbles in My Beer, I think that's Randy Reinhard on steel (but not 100% certain).

Also quite fond of Lloyd Green's ballads and a little known player from NZ by the name of Glen Ross Campbell (ex Juicy Lucy if anybody is old enough to remember that) who plays jazz and psychedelic stuff on a home built 13 string...

So here I am, looking forward to meeting some of you and learning from each of you as much as I can.

Welcome to the club/mad/addictive house. The weather in UK isn't going to help the Arthritis, but the music scene is on the way up with a number of youngsters joining the psg/ls club. You say your over from NZ...did you ever come across Johnny Morris at all...technician/piano tuner, studio and sound man?
As to the Arthritis welcome to that familiar club...know exactly what you are going through.

Good luck in the future.

John Morris’ name is familiar, I think he may have serviced the Bosendorfer piano I used to play regularly.. not sure I ever met him personally.
