Hi members, my name is Billy and i'm from Falkirk in Scotland. For anyone who is interested, a little about myself:
In February 1977 I travelled down to the Steel Mill and Eric Snowball sold me a ZB student, a couple of months later I fitted a second knee lever and worked my way through the Winston/Keith book. By 78 I was playing with a country rock band doing NRPS, Flying Burrito and Eagles type material. I also did some country clubs standing in with a country band. In December 83 Mr Snowball sold me a second hand Emmons D10. (when I was at the Steel Mill Buddy Emmons phoned and I got to speak to him) By 1983 the pressures of my day job were taking up most of my time, and in 1986 I put the steel in its case where it stayed until the end of last year when I retired. It's taken a few months to get back up to speed, but I am just about there and really enjoying playing again.

Hello Billy,
I've just read your potted history in the 'Try This' section. If you can, you should come on down to the monthly meetings of the Scottish Steel Guitar Workshop. They're held on the 4th Tuesday of the month. The next one's the 28th of August. It's in Gartcosh Community Centre. You can see a list of the dates and the address here....

There might be a few faces you recognise, as there a fair few survivors of the 70s Country scene in regular attendance. It's a fun night for those of us that love the steel.

Hope you can make it down, it would be great to hear your Emmons in full flow.

Hi Danny
Thanks for the invite, it's not to far from me, just along the motorway. I will try and at least pop in to one of the next 2 meetings.
I have few technical issues to try and sort out. My Session 400 is completely dead, the driver for the pedal pot broke after taking it out of storage and the pot on my D10 has seized up. I have also still got the ZB Student in storage which I need to have a look at.
At the moment I am just using a Peavey Rage 108 practice amp and an old Boss guitar volume pedal.
I am 30 years out of date with whats available and would appreciate seeing what you guys are using, and any advice would be useful.

If the Session 400 is beyond your repair skills, I can recommend Flynn Amps in Commerce Street, Glasgow. Steve's a good guy.

Hello Billy, You will be made very welcome at Gartcosh if you can make it, we try to turn up about 7.00/ 7.30, set up for 8.00. we have to be out the hall for 11.00. Everyone coming in pays £5.00 to help pay for the hall, to keep the date at the 4th Tues of the month we have to book the hall a year in advance. It's a fun night plenty crack, and no prima donnas. If you do nothing else in your life you need to get along to Gartcosh as has been suggested. The guys there will make you truly welcome. There are some fantastic players there, and one or two are first class pedal steel techs. I guarantee that you will not find a friendlier bunch of folks anywhere.
