Tuning heads for resonators

Postby dlb » Wed Feb 28, 2018 9:18 am

Hey there,
New member, first post.

I've got an 8 string resonator im trying to refurbish and upgrade parts. I've tracked down the majority of the parts I need the only thing I'm having trouble with is the tuning heads.
Does anyone know of any high high quality machine heads that come in sets of more than 6?
Most luthier supply stores I've checked seem only to sell sets of 6 and are ironclad that if I want more I would need to buy an additional set. Wouldn't be an issue were it not that I've been looking for something in the waverly range and an additional 100 pounds for another set is a piss take.
Any of you guys have any recommendations as to what to buy and where?

any help is appreciated

cheers
dlb

Hi dlb, and welcome to the forum :D

You would probably be better posting this in the wanted section in the Wanted and For Sale section of the forum, more chance of someone coming across it there. I can sympathise with you, I had the same problem when looking for an odd number of machine heads. Unfortunately it was so long ago I can't remember exactly how I resolved it, I'll have a scan through my suppliers links and see if I can remember.

I've used mandolin sets before - it depends on whether the holes are already drilled in fixed places. On a reso I converted from 6 to 7 I had to fill holes on one side with dowels and re-drill. Good luck. :D
Fender SM T-8: Shakey 10-plank: Ricky 6: Harmony H7 R Smeck,: plus "home-mades"
