Beardyman checking in to learn and say hi

Mon Mar 20, 2017 8:06 am

Hi Guys, Came across your forum and joined to hopefully learn and get some advice, now 50 years young I've been wanting to learn an instrument for a while, due to an accident in my youth the fingers on my left hand don't work as they should, which ruled out everything but drums, trumpet and instruments played with a single hand,a rock lead guitarist in a group called betrayal and very good freind mentioned lap steel,I did a quick google and watching YouTube this looks perfect as both my kids play guitar. Now dad can finally join in.

Welcome Mark,

The Lap Steel Section is the place to head, and there's been plenty of great videos posted elsewhere on the forum, too. Search for the likes of Jerry Byrd, Kayton Roberts and Chris Scruggs, and prepare to be amazed.

Good luck with your ventures into Steelie-Land :guitar:

Hi Mark and welcome. Whereabouts do you live? Maybe we have someone in the area who can meet up and talk you through the many variations :? on a lap steel and help you decide what to get.
Meanwhile, please don't jump in and buy a cheap six string steel guitar - you may need more strings than that, depending on the music you want to make. More strings aren't necessarily more difficult and may be more rewarding in the end.

Mark, if you're in the Stoke on Trent area you are close to Basil Henriques. What he doesn't know about steel guitar can be written on the back of a small postage stamp! He's always happy to help and encourage beginners and experience players alike.
