Hi All

Well i put my first Steel guitar effort in the Music section,and out of 30 views i had not one reply.

I just wanted someone to say if it was good bad or rubbish,i don't mind,but no one could be bothered.

I guess that's made my mind up for me.I am just glad i wasn't asking for help it's obvious i would not get it.

I'm sorry it didn't work out better,i was looking forward to rekindling my Steel Guitar playing
but it wasn't to be.

I would suggest You leave the post of Your playing a little while longer.It was only posted Yesterday and it was Saturday which could mean that players are at,or preparing for gigs or even doing Family things over the weekend.
You have arrived at Your decision to abandon the pedal steel very quickly(My opinion) I was at it for a year before I got a musical squeak from the beast and was determined to play,I have often been on the verge as have many of the guys here but suddenly something works and You rise to a higher plateau,playing and learning is full of peaks and valleys.
As far as commenting on Your playing I would say that You would appear to have the basics down very well and have the potential to be a very good player,however if You are able to give up the thoughts of playing steel so easily I wonder if Your attitude is correct.It is a bumpy road to good steel playing and I am full of bruises but I have enjoyed it all the way.
I have been told,over the years that I was out of tune,bad intonation and poor tone but I took it all on board and cried Myself to sleep many times and got on with it.
Have another think.and give the guys here a chance to opine in their own time.

Steady on Alan, bear with us a bit longer. I for one like to take my time before replying to posts since shooting from the lip often offends

Considering you had been playing only four weeks I thought it was a damn fine effort. Maybe you should give it another go.

You are more than welcome to come down to mine & have a bash on my 12 string Universal anytime (tea & coffee included). I´m only 67ish. miles from you. I will also have a second PSG in another couple of weeks. It could be fun & it would get you out of the house

Thank you for the replies,it is because I was so enthusiastic about getting another steel that
I was looking for a quick reply,anything would have done.

I have been listening to David Hartley on YouTube and that made me want to
Go for it even more.

I don't put as many embellishments in my playing as some do,but that's because I have played 6 string for so
long and that's how I played the Steel.

Pete,thank you for the kind offer but I am sorry that due to health reasons I won't be
able to take you up on it.

Maybe I will reconsider,I don't know.

What the guys above said ! its a bit early to kick us into touch, I was gigging last night not had chance to listen to the recording yet .... anyway, its a good job I have thick skin "and head" I put vids up all the time no one seems to comment any more but I don't take it to heart

Steady on Alan, too soon to throw in the towel. Regarding your recording unfortunately I could not get the link to work earlier on my iPad.
Hope you will give a little more thought of giving up before you have taken a bite or two into the fruit of steel playing. I have played like crap for years and continue to do so but love every moment of it. So stay put for a while

Hi Alan.

I have just logged on and read your comments so I immediately tuned into your audio link. All I can say is that if you can produce this in just 4 weeks of effort you appear to have got to grips with the basics and your previous musical background will stand you in good stead in the future. I can understand how disappointed you must have felt with having no feedback either good or bad. You are obviously very keen to make headway on the steel so think again and don't give up at the first hurdle there will be many more to follow, keep at it and follow your dream I can assure you it is well worth the effort. WELL DONE.

Well I must say a big thank you to everyone who has commented,whether on my
recording or my impatience to get your views.

I think I will stay for a while and see what develops.

As I have said,I do not have a guitar at the moment,so the next decision is
to decide whether to commit to buying one or not.

Your comments were also wanted to help me decide this last point.

Well Alan, now I know you have put something up, I went and had a listen, and was impressed. Nice clean blocking, no major intonation (bar position) errors, way better than I could do after four weeks or so. Some would say it's way better than I can do now, 7 years on, but let's leave that aside!

You picked the worst time to put up something for comment, because people tend to be doing things at the weekend. I look on this site daily for posts, and didn't even see your post yesterday.

It's a good idea to see how many times your post has been looked at before assuming people have chosen not to comment. For what it's worth, I quite often put up posts that don't attract a single comment, so you're not alone in not getting a quick reply. Stick with it, you need a healthy dose of bloody minded perseverance with pedal steel, and a thick skin doesn't come amiss. Welcome back.

Oh and another thing: go ahead and buy a steel. You won't be wasting your money.
