Wanting to Learn, Left Handed non guitar player

Sun Jan 04, 2015 4:50 pm

Hi folks,
I'm new to the forum and looking for advice.
I'm very much interested in learning to play either a lap steel or pedal steel and wondered which were the best to buy as a beginner. I can play some basics on a guitar but can't say as I'm much good. However the lap steel and pedal steel sound has really got me hooked and wanting to learn after listening to the likes of The Flying Burrito Bros and Stephen Stills Manassas of late.
I'm left handed and would like to know if this would make a difference. I've needed a left handed guitar in the past but from looking at some lap steels wondered if this would make much difference. I'd feel most comfortable using my left hand to pick.
Can anyone recomend a good starter pack and where to buy from online? Any help and advice is much appreciated in advance.

Phill
For info, 2 of the greatest steel guitar players of all time, Lloyd Green and Curly Chalker, were/are left handed yet played right handed.

Hi there.
I too am left handed but play instruments right handed.
you asked for advice on a starter pack. I have a student model pedal steel guitar for sale if that is of any interest.

Darren.

I meant to say if you are anywhere near London you are welcome to come and have a play to see how a right hand guitar suits you.

I have "Re-homed" about three left handed steel guitars but the owners have never progressed very well but, The Southpaws on here that play right handed seem to play better than most of us. :o :?

I'm another left hander who plays guitar and steel right handed.

Don't forget, there's not many left handed pianos.
