Hi all, I'm a complete beginner on steel, to the extent that I don't yet own one.
I'm a guitarist, and I'm just the right age to get problems with the fingers in my fretting hand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm looking to buy a guitar as soon as possible, preferably a 10 string E9 Emmons set up.

Hi Joe, you sound a bit like me, you've reached the age where it all starts to click, neck shoulder, hips, knees, it's great fun. Look at the for sale section on this site, check out the old reprobate, John Davis, he usually has a bargain or two on the boil. Welcome to the madhouse, Donny.

my advice would be to hook up w: someone who knows how to play the darn contraption
get pointers, advice, watch how he does it, ask questions & TAKE NOTES !
even better, record a video
there are no stupid questions - just questions - so go for it if you're really eager to learn
the hardest part IS the right hand & getting comfortable
w; time & PRACTICE, it pays off
David Hartley gives courses & a few others too
some such as i, use Skype for teaching & it's quite handy

Hi Donny, I think I know you slightly. I used to hang around RGM in Killie when I lived there. Are you doing a duo with Tom just now?

Joe, the photographer ? you're going back. Unfortunately I had to stop gigging last August, health not to good. Check out Steel Guitar Festivals and Events, I help to run the Scotish steel guitar workshop, it's on once a month, we cover tuition for beginners, pick a bit, and generally enjoy the evening. It's held in Gartcosh Village Hall. The next one is Tues the 25th. You are more than welcome, Everyone attending pays £5.00 to help cover the cost of the hall, I think you would find it very helpful, we have quite a few absolute beginners. Regards Donny.

Hi Donny, ex photographer now. I'm really sorry to hear about your health, I've got some problems myself but I'm still able to gig. Actually, since I packed in the fags nine years ago, I can now confidently call myself a singer
