Hello everybody! I am Julia, just joined this forum after having lurked for a long time! I absolutely love the sound of a PSG and although I have never seen one in real life, even less played one I really want one! I’m based in London and am a guitar player at heart. I have quite a few guitars, both electric and acoustic and amps and used to gig a lot about 15-10 years ago. Actually the closest thing I have to a steel guitar is an old acoustic which I have tuned in open G and put a Grover nut riser to play slide with a dobro tone bar… I get decent bluesy/swampy sounds out of it but it’s obviously nothing like a real PSG! I particularly like blues, country classic rock and all round good music! I thought I’d finally join to be able to interact with the members of the site and learn more bouts the world of Pedal Steel Guitars.
Ideally I’d like to find a good condition second hand Steel, I am thinking a S10 with 3 pedals, 4/5 knee levers setup in Emmons copedent would be ideal! I have noticed 2 on sale currently so I will enquire with the seller.
So glad to be part of this community and looking forward to get to know you all, and hope you’ll bear with me as I discover more about this wonderful instrument!

Welcome Julia,
How great it is to have a female taking up the PSG

You've come to the right place and I'd recommend keeping an eye on JohnDavisStringsHere's posts, in your search for a steel, as an incredible amount of guitars have passed through his hands and you won't find anyone more helpful.
I wish you all the best with your quest.

And from me, it's another welcome Julia.
You'll find loads of help on here, as you've probably noticed during your 'lurks'. When the pandemonium calms down we will be able to get playing out again and I encourage you to go along and, depending on the gig, introduce yourself. We have an annual steel guitar festival up here (North Yorkshire - look in the 'Steel Guitar Events Meetings and Festivals' threads) which would be a great opportunity but maybe too far for you to travel(?)
All best, Tony.

Welcome aboard Julia and Danny thank you so much for that unsolicited testimonial tis well thunk of
Julia, My advice would be before you jump in at the deep end contact one of our friendly members and check out their steel.... they are all different and I doubt you would want something like a ZB D10 that takes two men and a boy to lift it! If St.Neots Cambs is not too far for you you are welcome to have a play on mine or there is Matt Park in London who also teaches steel and he has a nice Cherry Shobud,

Thank you Donny and John! message received

i'll definitively look to get a pedal steel from the forum where we know what condition the instrument is in and the credentials of the person selling it! Julia
