This has just joined the BSS and all it is is a holiday business run from Murmansk...loads of steel players???

Don’t worry Maurice, if you say is true he has yet to post here and when he does it will be deleted.
The three of us keep a eye on new postings and if they are not steel related they are deleted.

Thanks Uncle Roy, I suppose I'm getting a bit paranoid in my old age...but have to say Murmansk looks quite a nice city...except for where it is. Thanks for the reassurance though.

That one's now gone.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I strongly advise members do not click on links in member profiles of new members, especially if they have 0 posts.

If they post spam they are deleted and banned. If they don't post anything, they'll be removed in the next round of 0 posts purges.

I've also just uninstalled the "Hello I'm New" name tag addition that gave new members a promotion on the forum main page, as it was pointless and usually promoted a spam signup.

I don't disagree, but I was curious and did a search elsewhere to trace the web address. You all work so hazrd to keep us safe and it more than appreciated. I know just how hard it can get from my experience with my wine site. Trying to sort the wheat from the chaff is more difficult now in my opinion and I do not envy you at all. You all cannot be expected to see everything that joins and occasionally I think it is incumbent on the members to point out some 'New Members' who can and do slip under the radar. Thanks again guys for all your hardwork and dedication.

It's not that they slip under the radar. I'm well aware of the 1 or 2 per day (on average) that get through to registration. It's just a lot easier to delete these en masse at regular intervals, than it is to deal with them individually (which is far more time consuming). In the same amount of clicks I can either get rid of a batch, or delete and ban one user.

I purged the memberlist again today, of 500+ 0 posters, that's about a year's worth.

While I appreciate the intention behind the report of any spam account, if that were policy the forum would quickly fill up with these reports, creating even more work for admins (deleting the reports as well as dealing with the spam accounts).

Anyway, it should be OK now, as I've disabled all new member info links (the "Hello" nametag and "Our newest member is..." in the footer), and disabled the memberslist for all but admins and moderators, so spam accounts should now go unnoticed to everyone!

OK point taken. Don't point out anything.
