Hello fellow steel guitarists.
Greetings from Texas.
I play mostly lap steel and enjoy western swing, cowboy songs, and jazz swing classics.
My main tuning is A6 (F#, A,C#,E, F#, A, C#, E)
I do play some pedal steel too, but not as much as the lap steel.
Hope you all are weathering the pandemic well and staying healthy and strong.
So glad to see that that people everywhere enjoy the gift of music especially on the steel and pedal steel guitar.
Thank you for allowing me to participate in your group. I also am on the pedal steel guitar forum in US.
Steel guitar is just a hobby for me. I'm not a professional.

Welcome to the BSS site Lance, hope you are well and staying safe. I have been playing pedal steel since about 1969, I have A D10 Blanton which was built in San Antonio Texas by Jerry Blanton, I bought it from an American sailor who was stationed in Scotland in the early 70s, it's a beautiful guitar, but as I am now 72 yrs old I cant lift it any more. Stay in touch, there's lots of info on here. Regards, Donny.

Howdy Lance,
I hope you're managing to keep out of the way of that hurricane. It looks horrendous, on the bits we're seeing on the news here.
Anyways, welcome to the forum, and I reckon you're in like company here, as I don't think there are too many pro players amongst our ranks. (I hope I'm correct with this assumption

)
I enjoy a bit of western swing myself. My favourite lap steelers were, the great Kayton Roberts and the one and only Jerry Byrd.
Cheers,
Danny.

Thank for the welcomes Danny and Donny. I'm a good bit far north of the hurricane thank God. I'm up in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Nothing but sunshine and mid 90 degree weather here.
The folks down there are facing a lot of destruction to clean up and contend with .
I like Kayton Roberts too. I have one of his albums. My favorite of his is "chime in" I don't know how in the world he did that so well. Chris Scruggs in Nashville has mastered this too. You can find video of him playing it on Youtube.
Of course Jerry Byrd is incredible. My favorites are Jeremy Wakefield from California and the late great Tom Morrell. I hired Tom Morrell and the Time Warp Top Hands to actually play at my wedding reception back in 1997 along with a few others that had actually played with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. It was the best music you ever heard...

Wow! Now that's what you call a wedding band!
