It's not that they slip under the radar. I'm well aware of the 1 or 2 per day (on average) that get through to registration. It's just a lot easier to delete these en masse at regular intervals, than it is to deal with them individually (which is far more time consuming). In the same amount of clicks I can either get rid of a batch, or delete and ban one user.
I purged the memberlist again today, of 500+ 0 posters, that's about a year's worth.
While I appreciate the intention behind the report of any spam account, if that were policy the forum would quickly fill up with these reports, creating even more work for admins (deleting the reports as well as dealing with the spam accounts).
Anyway, it should be OK now, as I've disabled all new member info links (the "Hello" nametag and "Our newest member is..." in the footer), and disabled the
memberslist for all but admins and moderators, so spam accounts should now go unnoticed to everyone!
