If you have five minutes, head over to the Steel Guitar Forum, Pedal Steel section. Scroll down to around 10th November, "UK Blast From The Past"

Might be of interest to the more...er...mature members!

Tony, I remember the Fretwire magazine,
I done a couple of articles myself for them, my dear old mate Bill Hemings done that E9th page. I also done an article on Bill as he was really an Hawaiian style lap player. Although there was 20 years difference in our age we were great buddies. I kept my word when he was near the end of his life that I would be with him to the end.

Glad to have re-kindled some memories....and small world, I lived in Redfield, Bristol for most of the 70s, a few miles down the road from Downend. Back then, banjo was my first love, lap-steel and reso came much later.

PS: Around this time I was working at BAC, now British Aerospace. One of my workmates was Alan Morgan RIP, former Steelies member. I clearly remember him taking me to his house one lunch-hour. He was keen to show off his shiny new ZB pedal steel which he'd just bought to start learning. He played Rose of San Antone to show off his progress!

Hi Tony,
What a small world, Alan was more than a member, he was co founder of our society with myself.
I can remember him mentioning your name on several occasions and that you were a work mate.
Photo of yours truly with Sarah Jory and Alan. He was a good player and a quiet gent!

What an interesting thread gents. Bill Hemmings sounds like an incredibly talented and hard working musician.
Thanks for sharing these memories, a great read.
