Sometimes I think we try to over complicate things in our playing and I for one am very guilty of that. A sort of "Hey look at me folks - aint I good?" Well this song in particular brought me down to earth. It's interesting that when guitar magazines hold a poll for the best guitar solo of whenever, it's never the complicated string tapping and pulling that get in the list. It is always the most beautiful and soulful solos that win hands down.
There is the old adage that it is not what you put in that counts, it's what you leave out. Doing this recording brought it home to me where I have come to the end of a phrase and just held the note for as long as I could and perhaps with a subtle twist of the bar at the end, was far more effective than some of the notes I had put in to fill the space previously. I know what I prefer.
